The reason for this is passkeys/secure enclaves standardized around secp256r1 private keys. EVM uses secp256k1, so mainstream devices can't natively generate an EVM private key that can be used for signatures. RIP-7212 proposes a precompile for secp256r1 signature verification, which would enable passkey signatures in smart wallets. Interestingly, @SuiNetwork supports both types of private keys, so their wallets are able to generate private keys/sign transactions using mobile passkeys/secure enclaves already.
Is there a technical reason why passkeys haven't proliferated much in our space? Feels like such an easy UX unlock but there are like 3 projects that lean into them.
