SEC Commissioner: Bitcoin technology is of great significance to maintaining freedom, and U.S. citizens should have the right to use crypto mixers

PANews reported on June 3 that, according to Bitcoin Magazine, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce stressed during a conversation at PubKey, a bitcoin-themed bar in New York, that permissionless technologies such as Bitcoin are of great significance to maintaining freedom, and U.S. citizens should have the right to use cryptocurrency mixers. She spoke with NYDIG founder Ross Stevens about Bitcoin's resistance to confiscation, code as free speech, and other topics, using historical examples to illustrate the value of Bitcoin to freedom defenders, and warning of a possible recurrence of the 1933 U.S. government executive order seizing gold. Stevens points out that Bitcoin's mnemonic memory properties make it more resistant to confiscation.

Peirce criticized the American people for ignoring financial privacy and supporting citizens' right to use coin mixers. In response to a question from the bar's founder about the possibility of repealing the Bank Secrecy Act, she acknowledged the risks of financial institutions holding user data in a centralized manner, but said the issue was controversial in Washington. She also responded to questions about spot bitcoin ETF retail redemptions in kind (which she considers "unlikely" and would like to think further). She concluded that improper regulation may inhibit Bitcoin's potential, and the audience applauded enthusiasts.
