A bit of history doesn’t hurt. >The birth of O.P.I.U.M. and $PUPS Before there were Bitcoin Puppets, a collection of 777 O.P.I.U.M was launched on March 25, 2023 by @lepuppeteerfou (creator of Bitcoin Puppets). O.P.I.U.M stands for Ord Puppet Inu Undoxxed Millionaire. Put a bookmark on this name, because it’s an essential part of the lore. A few days after the mint of O.P.I.U.M, $PUPS (BRC-20) token was deployed as a community effort (@PupsToken) and successfully carried out the first BRC-20 airdrop. 100% of O.P.I.U.M holders received $PUPS (BRC-20). $PUPS had a supply of 7,770,000. >The birth of Puppets and Runes Fast forward several months and two events started to happen. The first one, the Runes Protocol was in development by @rodarmor (creator of the Ordinals Protocol). The main purpose was to create the best fungible tokens protocol for Bitcoin, thinking on the difficulties that the BRC-20 standard was having using the Ordinals Protocol and the effect it was creating for the Protocol and Bitcoin. Simultaneously, 10,001 Bitcoin Puppets were being launched by @lepuppeteerfou. O.P.I.U.M holders had the right to mint 5 Puppets per O.P.I.U.M. >The transition to Runes and the airdrop to Puppets The @PupsToken decided that $PUPS (BRC-20) were to be migrated to Runes on the halving (launch day of the Runes Protocol), but also decided to distribute the to-be migrated $PUPS to all Puppets holders. For that, @PupsToken distributed 10,778 Pups Inscriptions (pre-Runes) that upon halving would give an allocation of $PUPS (Runes) to the holders (burn mechanism). The decision was an immediate success in price terms, as all the Puppets community, and not only O.P.I.U.M, were going to benefit from that community (cult) token. >The hype Prior to the launch of the Runes Protocol, the @PupsToken team enabled a bridge to SOL of the BRC-20 tokens (with the ability to bridge back to Bitcoin). This decision afterwards allowed for the exponential price increase of $PUPS during the peak of memecoins on March and April, 2024, making it the most valuable pre-Runes token. >The etching of the $PUPS rune and the prophecy Upon the launch of the Runes Protocol, the @PupsToken team secured the PUPS•WORLD•PEACE ticker, and a very significant Rune number (13). The number 13 is very relevant in the $PUPS culture, as it signifies the prophecy: When $PUPS reaches a 13B market cap, every O.P.I.U.M that received the original airdrop would become a millionaire.
